Six minutes before Earth slipped behind the Moon, the Artemis II crew framed both worlds in a single photograph. Our planet hangs in a thin crescent, sunlight catching its right edge while the rest lies in darkness. Below, the lunar surface stretches out in ancient stillness — pocked with craters and scarred by the passage of time on a scale that dwarfs anything on Earth.

On the illuminated sliver of Earth, clouds trace patterns over Australia and the Pacific. The title captures what the image makes visceral: two worlds, one teeming with life and the other frozen in geologic silence, separated by the thinnest sliver of space.
